The North Bergen MUA will put into effect its new Recycling Routes. Find out your recycling pick-up day here!

The North Bergen MUA is proud to announce that on October 6, 2010, the utilities pipeline from the Central Treatment Plant service area began operating and sewerage is now being pumped to the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commissioners in Newark for treatment. North Bergen taxpayers are saving at least $50 million, thanks to the new pipeline, by eliminating the need to build an expensive sewage treatment plant in the Township. In addition to saving money up front in reduced construction costs, the NBMUA will realize an additional $1 million reduction in lower operating and maintenance costs annually. The NBMUA will continue to operate the Woodcliff Treatment Plant as well as the CSO Netting Facilities at 9 locations throughout the municipality. The Netting Facilities capture and remove approximately 35 tons per year of sanitary and street litter that washes to the rivers during storms.

We are also proud to announce that our Solid Waste Department, which collects over 40 million pounds of household waste per year and 5 million pounds of recyclable materials, this year, received a grant in the amount of $172,539. The grant was awarded to the North Bergen MUA by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection through the Recycling Enhancement Act. North Bergen was fifth in the State in the amount of recycling collected out of 566 Municipalities. The grant money will be used for enhancing outreach and compliance efforts. Through these efforts, taxpayers can realize additional savings in reduced dumping fees.
